Aberdeen's work in knowledge technologies spans several decades, while constantly evolving into new areas. Founded on early work in databases and semantic data models, and knowledge acquisition, modelling, and machine learning, much of our current activity is framed in the context of Web-based knowledge management. The work in this theme covers the whole "life-cycle" of knowledge, from the initial identification of relevant expertise, through its capture, representation, usage and reuse, to the eventual "phasing-out" of outdated knowledge. Research in these topics also underpins some of the activity in our other themes.
