One of the sub-categories of intelligent information
agents identified within the motivating statement
for the
AgentLink II I2A SIG are "adaptive information agents". Such
agent systems employ learning techniques to adapt to one
or all of the following: users, agents, the
environment.
Examples include personal assistants for information searches on
the Web or collaborating information agents that adapt
themselves as a system in changing environments.
Such agent systems have traditionally
been the focus of research within several communities: distributed
artificial intelligence, machine
learning, information retrieval, HCI.
The Working Group on Adaptive Information Agents (AIA)
is concerned with all aspects of adaptation and
learning in the context of intelligent information agents, but the group
will initially focus on a small number of key areas. The first of these to
be identified is: adaptive user-interfaces, user-profiling and personalisation
technologies. Suggestions for others are welcomed!
The Group aims to map the European AIA research landscape and to identify
a
relevant research agenda for the short to medium-term. In addition, it
hopes to promote interaction
among academic and industrial partners, via the dissemination
of relevant information, fostering research collaborations, etc.
The Working Group is chaired by Pete Edwards of the University of
Aberdeen (pedwards@csd.abdn.ac.uk).
