This section summarises two key aspects of CS3007: the role of project managers, and maintaining a personal log.
Each team will be allocated a member of academic staff to act as a manager. The manager will arrange to meet with the team every two weeks. The purpose of these meetings is as follows: to allow the manager to discuss your performance on project-related activities; and for you to raise any problems/concerns. In addition, when you meet with your manager, each team member should hand over a completed Personal Log Reportform (see below). These forms will be checked by the manager, and will be returned to you for safe-keeping. If you encounter any difficulties during CS3007, you should communicate in the first instance with your manager, who will then report any serious problems to the Course Organiser (Dr Pete Edwards).
Managers are issued with the following guidance notes. You may wish to look over them.
Every two weeks you will be required to complete a Personal Log Report form (sample copy). You should take these forms seriously, as they serve a number of useful functions: they act as a means by which academic managers can monitor your progress/achievements/problems; they allow you to comment on the performance of your team mates (which may allow the manager to intervene and deal with problems within the team before they become too serious); they provide a means by which you can keep accurate, timely records of your project activities.
This final aspect is very important, as part of the assessment for CS3007 is an individual report in which you must describe your activities over the course of the project. Your completed Personal Log forms will make the task of preparing the individual report much easier! In addition, you are required to submit a complete set of Personal Log forms with your individual report.
