BACKGROUND I graduated from the University of Aberdeen in July 2005 with a BSc. Hons. in Computing Science (Artificial Intelligence with industrial placement). During the four years I completed modules in computing, psychology, and maths as many undergrads do during that degree. During my placement, I worked for Sun Microsystems Ltd. as a database administrator. The team was principally supporting Oracle DBs but we also had a few Sybase DBs. Due to my knowledge in java/Javascript, I was asked to update the different webpages used by the team (including Sevlets and JSP). My CV contains more details of past experience in the computing industry. As part of my honours project, I have worked on implementing the discriminatory feature algorithm for Refiner++. I have also worked for Prof Derek Sleeman and the AKT group here in Aberdeen. I have worked on improving the GUI interface as part of Retax+. As part of my research, I have been looking at Lexical incoherence in Ontologies. Our approach, called CleOn, extracts lexical paths from thesauri to asses taxonomic relationships in OWL ontologies. This approach was first presented at the EON06 Workshop where it received mixed reaction. A technical report describing the approach in more details can be found on my publication page. Lately, I have presented a paper at the FOMI Workshop describing our methodology to develop OWL ontologies as part of the IPAS project. IPAS (Integrated Product and Services) is a multi-disciplinary project investigating the use of Semantic Web technologies to consolidate knowledge and facilitate the retrieval of document by engineers. |
